and what is america's national identity? How did the current financial crisis affect america's national identity?
Thanks to the all of the presidents after World War II, we were seen as one of the big dogs of the world. Being top dog has a lot of responsibilities attached to it...and after the USSR fell in the late 1980 and early 1990s, we became the single top dog of the world.
To Europeans, we're seen as loud, obnoxious, unsophisticated, and slightly fascist.
To Africans we're seen as almost perfect. Numerous Africans want to come to America, but almost all of them have accepted the fact that they'll live and die in Africa.
Asians (including the Middle East) want to be Westernized. The U.A.E. is very westernized. Iran wants to be Westernized. China is, in its own odd socialist way, becoming Westernized.
The world looks to us to see how to be, because we are the top dogs. We set the example for everyone.
Does the financial crisis affect our national identity? No. We are still, despite all the hardships, the top dogs of the world. How did the current financial crisis affect america's national identity?
Man i love this question for starters America's National Identity(i use capitals because its so important and unique) is what everyone thinks of America, for example Russia's national identity, not so good. As to answer your other question it made us look worse in some ways but better in others. A bad economy certainly made are national identity look worse simply because a bad economy is bad! On the other hand as a nation America become more frugal and escaped the days of muscle cars and giant gold chains(mostly) which makes us look less.... well, like idiots
