What are the chances of becoming a movie director? For indie and big budget hollywood.?

I would like to know #/#, approximate guess will do just well, for indie films and big budget hollywood films. What are the chances of becoming a movie director? For indie and big budget hollywood.?It all depends on you and your luck.

1. You have to have talent.

2. You have to know people. A lot of people.

3. Luck.

If you really want to be a director, like I am hoping to be, pick a good film school, get a BA or MA in film, and start making connections. Who you know is everything. It is pretty much the only way people get jobs in the industry, and whether you get in the industry or into indie films, you're going to need to know people to have a crew or to work as crew. If you want to get into a company and be a director with them, you're looking at getting coffee for current crew and screwing in light bulbs for the next ten to twenty years. It's not only a tough road, it's a long one. So if it really is a passion for you, like it is for me, you'll strive your hardest to make a living from it. This is a very "glamorized" profession. It isn't easy. You work 16 to 20 hour days for months at a time. And while there are the few that make a million dollars off of it, you're looking at 35k to 55k a year.

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but it you really want to be a director, you can be. You just have to work extremely hard for it.What are the chances of becoming a movie director? For indie and big budget hollywood.?Indie? You can be an indie director just by making a movie by yourself.

But big-budget? Probably about 1/1,000,000.
