Can US financial crisis be contained?

Now there are so much bad news in the stock market. Everyone is so negative about the global future. Is the good days coming around in one or two years time?Can US financial crisis be contained?
With the current administration, it will be difficult to turn around. In fact, the crisis happened because of the current administration poor financial policies. However, there is an election coming up, and If Obama is elected, there will be hope. If McCain is elected, things will be as bad or worse. US is in a big hole, with technology focus in defense and not in commercial sector; thus, Asia is performing better in economy. Moreover, US is dragged into the Wars that is sucking the money out of the American in a horrible way. Let's say 1~2 years are too good to be true. It will be like 3~5 years. Let's pray.Can US financial crisis be contained?
I am not sure what contained means.

In terms of geography it cannot be contained as we live in a global world where anything we do affects everybody else.

In terms of long term effects it will depend on us, and not on any politicians.

This crisis is only a symptom of the breakdown of relationships between human beings, and if it is not treated as such, and the efforts for solutions are only superficial (meaning political or economical) it will last very long, and will get deeper.

Good days: yes, however, not in the old sense of buying without having money. Either there will be sustainability or nothing will be.
New home sales are slightly up. As I understand, this is unexpected news!
