This morning I had to take an alternate route and took a left onto a street where you cannot make a left between the hours of 7-9 am. It was 8:45 and I turned left to follow the car in front of me. The street I made a left from is in West Hollywood, but I was pulled over by a Beverly Hills police officer. I will pay the fine, but can they do this? I thought they could only pull over people in Beverly Hills. Yes, a BHPD officer can cite you in West Hollywood even though West Hollywood is patrolled by the sheriff's department. California peace officers have police powers throughout the state, so a BHPD officer could cite you in Sacramento if they wanted to.

He like all police officers are certified in the state in which they police, so because you made it to another city, town, or county does not mean that officer can not cite, arrest, or otherwise make your day very unpleasant.
