Does anyone think Hollywood tries too hard to make scary movies?

Okay, so, I saw The Uninvited a few days ago with a friend of mine and we didn't get the ending of the movie but we were like 'whatever'. So then last night we were watching The Grudge 2 on DVD last night and i thought of something....

does anyone else think that Hollywood tries too hard to make scary movies to the point where its just not scary anymore, it's just plain stupid and confusing? anyone else agree?Does anyone think Hollywood tries too hard to make scary movies?OKay I'd agree with you, buttttttt I watched 30 Days of Night on IMAXopening night and I kid you not I'm a dude and I didn't go to sleep until it was daylight. The sound made it GREAT b/c I saw it again on the regular screen and it was long and boringgggg. I just watched this movie called "Rogue" about a crocidile and that was SCARY AND TERRIFYING. Like i felt like i got off a roller coaster and that doesn't happen when i watch stuff off the tv.

I agree and disagree with you. I agree b/c what it is is dumb peopel are putting out movies thinking it's scary and there's a certain science and knowledge you have to have to make a scary movie scary. What made My Bloody VAlenitne great (not scary) was that it was in 3d. I did holler and stuff but i felt moreso like i was on a roller coaster or at a haunted house, and they don't usually scare me. I enjoy it b/c everyone else or at least the girls are having fun. It's hit and miss. You gotta know WHAT MAKES stuff scary. Like the remake of Halloween wasn't scary. And I watch Halloween (all of them) and it's still creepy. I wasn't creeped out with that. They missed the heart of it. I'm less impressed with Friday the 13th b/c JASON DOESN'T RUN. Like it totally doesn't seem like Jason at all. Seems like a copycat so I'm probably not gonna see it. So in that sense I agree. Honestly I don't know the formula b/c I thought Wes Craven had it then he made that "Curse" movie which I saw potential in it, but they used the corny takes of it so it was more comical scary and none of the great horror movies are like that at all. So I agree and disagree. I agree when characters do DUMB STUFF, most of the great movies the people didn't do dumb stuff on purpose. That's why I had to give Paris Hilton's character credit when she said I wasn't gonna go down there and when she really tried to stay alive. She kept it real or at least whoever made her character keep it real. GRUDGE 2 WAS GARBAGE BY THE WAY. THAT'S WHY IT'S STRAIGHT TO VIDEO. I didn't see The Uninvited, didn't really wanna. Or that other movie about the dead twinDoes anyone think Hollywood tries too hard to make scary movies?
no!!!! holloywood makes all movies great!Does anyone think Hollywood tries too hard to make scary movies?I agree, they are just confusing and stupid and over-done.
I think the opposite; they don't try hard enough. The majority of the horror movies out now SUCK.Does anyone think Hollywood tries too hard to make scary movies?yeah; but i dont find it confusing. i find it amusing.Does anyone think Hollywood tries too hard to make scary movies?
its like every scary movie is too predictable and they are all the same. movies used to be scary but idk what happened!!! The Grudge 2 was LAMEEE!!!
they do an okay job if they would just stop copying foreign films like the grude the ring the uninvited and so forthDoes anyone think Hollywood tries too hard to make scary movies?
I defiantly agree on that one because I saw one miss call and instead of it being scary it was dumb because every time a person would die a piece of candy would fall out of there mouths. Then at the beginning there was a cat and a lady and the lady looked in the water and then was dragged in the water out of no were. Another thing is when they would try to time the scary part they did it way of time.
The fear factor, its like 2012 The myian calendar is out to our calendar

by 4 years, so 2008 was 2012. It's just a plot for someone to make a few dollars from selling a book. The same goes for films
Does anyone have any real questions here rather than just opinions?

I don't want to feel left out, so here's my educated opinion...

Hollywood has reviewed what movies were "scary" in the past and tries to remake them in hopes to have the same effect. However, they don't come to realized that all their "special-effects" are not scary. They may seem scary in development, but in final production, they just appear to be too fake. Like a person is going to be scared of some 30 foot monster or whatever that they know doesn't exist in the real world! Especially when that monster (or whatever) doesn't even appear to look real because of all the CGI bullshit. Ever look at a real object compared to a fake (CGI) one? Real objects seem to have a matte-look to them while fake objects are more glossy and seem to move unnaturally when in motion. Back in the day this was done with costumes, make-up, etc. that had a more "real-looking" end result.

Another thing is that with original movies that were scary, they had a totally different feeling to them that leads up to a scary moment. Things start off slow and "creepy" to give you enough time to feel what's happening in the scene, rather than just viewing it. Back then, this was done with slow creepy-sounding music matched with the event at hand. Nowadays, they might have some sappy song playing in the background. WTF, that's not scary, it's just lame. Watch and listen to some current things and their originals and compare. I suggest watching the originals first.

Anothing thing about Hollywood... All these remakes makes me sick of hollywood these days. Don't they have any original ideas of there own???

Here are some good ones to watch, preferably alone in the dark with no one home for the first time (setting is important too):

Poltergeist (first one is the best),

Are You Afraid of the Dark (out of print),

Night of the Living Dead (original b%26amp;w),

Phantasm (Part II is better, but watch part I to understand better),

There are more, but these are some of my favs.
