Can someone give me a good beach to go to in Southern California near Hollywood?

I am going to be staying in Los Angeles in/around Hollywood and I need to know what a good beach to go to is... can anyone give me any? How is Venice Beach? Any good beaches in Laguna Beach? Preferably somewhere that we can surf and hang out on the beach till late. However, the surf there is no good, thanks to Catalina Island.



If you want good surf and a place to hang out late, the Huntington City Beach is the place to go. Surf, fire pits south of the pier, plenty of surf shops and other places to check out, it can't be beat.



Laguna is a very nice beach, plenty of shops, but not a good surf break.Can someone give me a good beach to go to in Southern California near Hollywood?
If surfing is one of your criteria then "Servette" and "Paris Hilton" are giving you excellent suggestions.



While the beaches along Santa Monica Bay are may be closer, the surf is poor, and they are closed every other month, or so, because of raw sewage contamination. My personal recommendation is Huntington Beach.



Just curious, Why are you going to stay near Hollywood? It's just an old dirty, not so safe district of L.A. No beaches NEAR Hollywood. Santa Monica is about 20/30 min. drive from Hollywood - Freaking traffic in L.A.

Santa Monica Beach is filthy. Either go north on PCH (Pacific Coast Hwy) and you have Malibu, Zuma. Go surf there.

Otherwise you can go south like Hungtington Beach, Newport Beach and Laguna Beach (all in Orange County)

Venice Beach is not really good for surfing, but you can hung around til very late at night. Fun Place. Santa Monica is nice. They have a pier that has sort of an amusement park on it. there are also a few restaurants there. The beach is really clean too. When i visited Hollywood that's the beach I went to
