I am moving to LA in a month and have been trying to scope out the areas. I will be frequently commuting to both Santa Monica and North Hollywood. I am trying to figure out what area would be best to look for housing in. Criterion is that it first of all be safe, not over the top expensive, and decent access to freeways (although this is negotiable considering it is LA and driving is horrible). What area of Los Angeles is good to live in if I need to commute to both Santa Monica and North Hollywood? It really depends on your budget. Driving is going to be a pain, but if you're going to one location far more, live closer to that location. For SM, probably Culver City/Palms or West LA, for NoHo, NoHo, Toluca Lake or Studio City.
Beverly Hills is expensive, and not right near freeways, but a good option if you can afford it. West Hollywood is expensive, especially in the nicer neighborhoods, and it's not all that safe. But a lot of how safe you are is up to you. Be aware of your environment, get good locks on your doors and windows, alarm your car, and don't do dumb stuff like walk around at night or invite over strangers.
Good luck! What area of Los Angeles is good to live in if I need to commute to both Santa Monica and North Hollywood?I would go with Laurel Canyon or West Hollywood. What area of Los Angeles is good to live in if I need to commute to both Santa Monica and North Hollywood?Westwood or Palms.
